Common warts, flat warts and plantar warts are caused by different strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV) and can appear on the hands, face, feet or genitals.
What is it?
Warts are benign, coarse protrusions that appear on the skin when the body is infected with HPV through a tear or cut on the skin. These elevated, skin-toned outgrowths can emerge anywhere on the body, resembling a blister. They are not harmful, yet many of our patients opt for their removal since they can be transmitted to other people through contact and may be considered visually unappealing.
There are several types of warts, like plantar warts, common warts and flat warts. Typical warts are frequently found on hands, fingers, surrounding the nails, or on the back of hands. Plantar warts manifest on the soles of the feet and may cause discomfort if left untreated. Flat warts can be found anywhere on the body, while filiform warts appear like threads on the face.
