An infectious skin condition with red sores and blisters that can leak, forming a yellow-brown crust.
What is it?
Impetigo is a highly infectious skin disease that is particularly common among young children, but can impact people of all ages. The ailment is marked by red sores or blisters that can develop anywhere on the body, though they frequently begin on the arms, legs and face. Impetigo blisters often burst, leak for several days and then form a yellowish-brown crust. Although this disease can be itchy and uncomfortable, it rarely presents serious health threats.
How is it treated?
Prompt treatment of impetigo is important to prevent its transmission to others. In most cases, our team will recommend a topical antibiotic cream to be applied to the affected area as instructed. Oral antibiotics may be prescribed for more severe cases of impetigo.
